Chris Johnson Blasts A Pair of Homers

Share

Chris Johnson blasted a pair of home runs and drove home five on Tuesday, powering the Diamondbacks to a 10-4 victory over the Pirates. When the Houston Astros dealt Johnson to the Diamondbacks before the trade deadline in exchange for prospects Bobby Borchering and Marc Kraus, most called it a victory for Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow. Johnson now has five home runs and 15 RBI while going 10 for 29 (.345) in just eight games played with the Diamondbacks. Johnson has always had decent power potential and is now playing for a team that boasts one of the most power-friendly home parks. Johnson should continue to play every day for Arizona and is showing no signs of slowing down at the plate.

In other fantasy news…..

  • Huston Street nailed his 20th save by throwing a perfect ninth inning against the Cubs. Street has thrown 20 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings and his ERA is down to a microscopic 0.77. Street is a perfect 20-for-20 on save conversions this year.
  • Miguel Cabrera homered for a third consecutive game and he increased his league-leading RBI total to 95.
  • Ryan Dempster held the Red Sox to three unearned runs over 6 1/3 innings in his second start since joining the Rangers.
  • Michael Fiers was perfect through six innings on Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. Fiers now has a 1.80 ERA through the first 80 innings of his career. Fiers was not on any top prospect lists through his minor league career, but we are taking notice now. Fiers should be owned in all formats.
  • Evan Longoria singled and drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in his return from the disabled list.
  • Starling Marte belted the third home run of his career in Tuesday’s loss to the Diamondbacks.
  • Matt Garza has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a stress reaction in his right elbow and could be done for the year.
  • Pablo Sandoval (hamstring) could return to the Giants on Sunday or Monday.
  • Buster Posey hit another home run last night. His three-run home run in the first inning was his 12th hit in the first seven days of August.
