Jered Weaver Looks Sharp In Victory

Jered Weaver was able to shake off the rust from being on the disabled list for six weeks and pitch six strong innings as the Angels defeated Dodgers 4-3 on Thursday night. Weaver gave the Angels alot of confidence as he gave up one run and five hits, striking out seven and walking none in six innings. Weaver was perfect through four innings before Andre Ethier doubled to deep center field leading off the fifth for the Dodgers' first hit. The Angels (24-29) have won nine of 11 games since to pull to within 8 1/2  games of the Rangers, and getting Weaver back should help this team.

 MLB News & Notes

  • Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 with three home runs on Wednesday, but the Nationals got an unusually poor performance from Jordan Zimmerman and fell to the Orioles 9-6. Zimmerman doubled his home run total to six and he has 28 RBI this season.
  • Dioner Navarro homered three times and drove in six runs to lead the Cubs past the White Sox 9-3 on Wednesday. Unfortunately, very few to zero fantasy owners benefited from Navarro's big day as  he is owned 0% in Yahoo Fantasy Baseball Leagues.
  • Matt Kemp (hamstring) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his right hamstring Thursday. Kemp suffered another hamstring strain on Wednesday night while chasing a Mike Trout double to right-center. A trip to the disabled list is very possible.
  • Miguel Cabrera belted his 15th home run in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates. It was a two-run shot and it was the only hit of the night for him, which some would say was an off night.
  • Mark Teixeira (wrist) went 0-for-2 with a walk in his first rehab game. It's very possible that Teixeira could be activated as early as Friday. Kevin Youkilis also went 0-for-2 in the same game and he too looks to be on track to return to the Yankees lineup Friday.
  • Dominic Brown hit a pair of home runs Wednesday night in the Phillies victory over the Red Sox. Brown has hit five bombs in his past five games and has 13 on the season. He is on pace to hit around 40 homers which may make Brown the fantasy sleeper of the year. Brown was projected to hit 11 home runs and knock in 40 or so runs.
  • Jason Grilli earned his 22nd save of the season on Thursday night as the Pirates had another come from behind victory. This time it came against the Tigers and once again Grilli came in and was able to retire the Tigers was relative ease. He has still yet to blow a save.
  • Josh Hamilton (back) returned to the Angels lineup after sitting out Tuesday with back spasms. Hamilton went 0-for-3 with a walk.
  • Chris Davis went 4-for-4 with two homers, three RBIs and three runs in Wednesday's win over the Nationals. Davis continues to crush the ball for the Orioles.
  • Justin Masterson was not at his best on Wednesday night against the Reds, but it was still good enough. He surrendered four walks through six innings of one-run ball in a 5-2 win over the Reds. He gave up a first inning home run to Joey Votto, but that was it as he earned his eighth victory of the season.
