Carlos Gonzalez & Tulowitzki Combine For 5 Home Runs

Carlos Gonzalez tied his career high with three homers - two of them off Pedro Villarreal - and Troy Tulowitzki went 5-for-5 with two home runs of his own on Wednesday night as the Rockies won 12-4 over the Reds in Cincinnati. Cargo and Tulo combined to go 8-for-10 in the game with five home runs and nine RBI. The Rockies arrived at Great American Ballpark expecting to face Johnny Cueto, but Cueto was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. So, instead Cargo and Tulo feasted on Villarreal and the rest of the Reds pitching staff on Wednesday. When Cargo and Tulo are healthy, both are worth every dollar fantasy owners spend to draft them each year. Let's hope both can remain healthy and on the field for the remainder of the season.

  • Johnny Cueto (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list before the game, the second time this season the Reds top starter has been sidelined by a strained muscle in the back of his shoulder. Cincinnati's top starter was out from April 15 to May 19 with the injury. Cueto has become a very frustrating ace to own in fantasy baseball over the last two seasons. Cueto was quoted as saying that he will be ready to pitch on June 16th, which is the first day he is eligible. Regardless, fantasy owners need to understand that he is fragile and owning him comes with alot of risk.
  • Stephen Strasburg (lat) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat. Strasburg was scratched from a scheduled bullpen session on Wednesday due to some lingering soreness in his right lat muscle. The Nationals remain hopeful that Strasburg will be ready to be activated on June 16 -- the first day he's eligible.
  • Paul Goldschmidt hit his second grand slam in the last five games. Goldy went 2-for-5 with the four RBI in a victory over the Cardinals in St. Louis Wednesday night. Through 58 games this year, Goldschmidt is hitting .336 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI.
  • Addison Reed earned the win Wednesday in a 7-5 White Sox victory over the Mariners in 16 innings. Despite earning his fantasy owners a win, the damage he caused them in the 14th inning was brutal. Reed first entered the game in the bottom of the 14th with the White Sox leading 5-0. He promptly surrendered that lead after he gave up four singles and a grand slam to Kyle Seager. Some wins are more costly than others.
  • Jose Altuve went 2-for-5 with his third home run of the season as the Astros beat the Orioles 11-7 on Wednesday. Altuve now owns an eight game hitting streak.
  • Howie Kendrick went 4-for-5 with a home run in the Angels' loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. Kendrick was 7-for-8 in the two game series against the Cubs and in his last 22 games, he is batting .395 with 15 runs scored.
  • Matt Wieters went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the Orioles loss to the Astros on Wednesday. Wieters has 8 home runs and 34 RBI this season.
  • Mark Trumbo went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the Angels' loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. The first home run off James Russell was a blast as Trumbo continues to be one of the more consistent hitters in a struggling Angels lineup.
  • Jedd Gyorko went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and he collected two RBIs. The home run came off Clayton Kershaw and he continues to be a quality option for fantasy owners.
  • Cameron Maybin will be activated today from the disabled list and Kyle Blanks will be optioned to Triple-A Tucson. Its a bit surprising to see Blanks get sent down after being on a good run of late at the plate.
