Rafael Betancourt Exits with Sprained Right Elbow

Rafael Betancourt felt something in his right elbow and left the game as the Rockies lost 5-4  to the Phillies on Thursday night. The Rockies announced after the game that Betancourt has a sprained right elbow and he will have an MRI on Monday. Betancourt left with two outs and the game tied at 4 in the ninth after he gave up a game-tying infield single by Michael Young. Betancourt blew his second save in as many nights. Rex Brothers will once again take over as the Rockies closer. Brothers has just one blown save on the year, and it came in the seventh inning of a game in May. During Betancourt's previous absence from July to just a few days ago, Brothers was a perfect seven-for-seven in save opportunities. He has 11 saves and a 1.51 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings thus far this season. Fantasy owners should go after Brothers if he is avaliable in your league.

Heyward Out 4-6 Weeks with Broken Jaw

Jason Heyward sustained two jaw fractures when he was struck by a John Niese fastball on Wednesday and will have surgery today. Heyward is expected to miss 4-6 weeks of the season. After Heyward got beaned by the 90 mph fastball, it was a scary scene as he remained on the ground for a few minutes before walking off the field on his own power. Heyward has been on a tear at the plate since moving into the leadoff spot in July. He began the day batting .254 with 13 homers and 37 RBIs on the season. The Braves are now faced with most likely a platoon situation that won't  match Heyward's production. B.J. Upton was recently demoted to a part-time role as he continues to be one of the biggest fantasy busts in 2013. Upton has been primarily used against lefties while sitting against right-handed pitching. Jordan Schafer will also be apart of the platoon situation, but there is little confidence that either of these players can come close to Heyward's production.
