Hyun-Jin Ryu was excellent on Tuesday night as he earned his first complete game in the major leagues, pitching a two-hitter against the Los Angeles Angels. Ryu changed speeds and worked both sides of the plate with ease all night long and he faced just over the minimum. Ryu (6-2) struck out seven and did not walk anyone. At one point, Ryu retired 19 consecutive batters during one stretch. He now has six victories and owns a 2.89 ERA. If Ryu can keep this going don't be surprised to see him in the All Star game in July.
Yasmani Grandal is set to return to the San Diego Padres today after his 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. John Baker will be sent down to make room for Grandal. Grandal was hitting .306 in nine minor league games at Triple-A Tuscon. Grandal was really impressive during his rookie campaign last year as he hit .297 with eight home runs, 36 RBI in 226 at-bats. Nick Hundley got off to such a hot start this year, but he has cooled off significantly, hitting just .143 in 18 games in May. Odds are that it will not be long before Grandal gets most of the playing time behind the plate.
