The Atlanta Braves announced Monday night that Jayson Heyward underwent successful appendectomy surgery in Denver, CO. The recovery time is 2-4 weeks, but there have been players that had the procedure and returned with 10 days in recent years. The Braves are going to play three games in the next two days, so it is seems likely that Heyward will be put on the disabled list. Reed Johnson and Jordan Schafer will most likely platoon during his absence, but don't be surprised to see Evan Gattis get an opportunity in right field. The Braves like Gattis in the lineup and with Brian McCann returning in the near future and Freddie Freeman returning today, Gattis will be without regular starts.
Albert Pujols has not been running well at all this season due to a foot issue. Pujols is suffering from plantar fascitis, an inflammation of the tissue that stretches across the bottom of the foot. Pujols was the Angels DH for the fourth straight game on Sunday in an effort to avoid the disabled list. However, Pujols came out and announced that he is "dying" right now and a DL stint could be imminent. This appears to be something that is solvable and manageable. The truth is that there is not much he or the Angels can do about this situation except let Pujols rest. Fantasy owners have to hope that Pujols can get back to first base and keep that first base eligibility for 2014.
