Ryan Zimmerman’s slow start to the season left many wondering if this would be another injury riddled season for the third baseman. Recently, Zimmerman’s right shoulder was causing him so much pain that a trip to the disabled list seemed imminent. So, naturally, the third baseman then proceeded to put together his best week of the season. After receiving a cortisone shot prior to last Sunday’s game, Zimmerman has hit .378 with three homers and 13 RBI over the next six games. He’s hit three home runs in the last six games after managing just one over the previous 30 games. On Sunday, Zimmerman carried the Nationals, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, a solo home run, and four RBI in a victory over the Braves. It’s obvious that the cortisone injection has done its job for the Zimmerman, but how will he play once the shot wears off.

AJ Burnett Wins 8th Straight Decision

One of baseball’s best redemption stories continued on Thursday afternoon, as A.J. Burnett threw 6 2/3 sharp innings to win his eighth straight start in a 5-4 victory over the Phillies. Burnett improved to 9-2 with the win and now has a 3.31 ERA over his first 13 starts this season. And, he’s just the third pitcher this year to go 5-0 in a month, joining Washington’s Gio Gonzalez and the Phillies’ Cole Hamels.
