Defense has been the backbone of the L.A. Galaxy during their ascent up the Western Conference standings in recent weeks, but tonight the offense led by Juninho and Robbie Keane reminded MLS that the defending champs can score a lot of points as well. The Galaxy scored three goals in the first half and the result was never in doubt as L.A. dispatched Toronto FC 4-2 and clinched a spot in the MLS Playoffs.
Juninho started the night off with a bending free kick from the left side of the penalty area that sailed into the upper right corner in Beckham-like fashion as the star midfielder was out due to injury. Juninho added a second in the 33rd minute with an epic 35 yard GOLAZO that is guaranteed to get MLS Goal of the Week and MLS Goal of the Year consideration.
Robbie Keane put the Galaxy up 3-0 on a stellar play that started with a great pass from Donovan to Magee who found Keane in traffic. Keane held the ball and sent a ball to the net with precise touch that was deflected off the helpless Toronto keeper Freddy Hall's glove and it appeared the route was on.
Toronto FC is a team that has given the Galaxy problems the last few years and they attempted to rain on the parade. In the 38th minute Terry Dunfield found the back of the net to cut the Galaxy lead to 3-1 at the half. Luis Silva scored in the 86th cutting the lead to 3-2 late making for a tense conclusion but Robbie Keane put the dagger in this one in the 92nd minute with a nifty move and finish that sealed the win and put the L.A. Galaxy into the 2012 MLS Playoffs.
